september

There’s nothing left to say and there’s nothing left to do

the shops have all closed down…the schools are all burnt through

there’s nowhere left to go…the roads have all been blocked

the hospital is closed…the doors have all been locked.

And when you show me

all the bright stuff on that screen

I have to do a double-take to work out what it means...

and I am all plugged-in

with my fingers on the keys

I look of pixels now

but I think of birds and trees

the screen it licks my eyes

and my fingers twitch and ache

I seem to vaguely remember

what it’s like to go outside in September...
