Introduction
It is acknowledged
that to date Scotland has experienced only a limited number of reported
cases of either abduction (kidnap) involving a ransom demand, or
commercially based extortion by threat of product contamination
or similar means in order to obtain monetary or other gain. Notwithstanding
this position, a sufficient level of awareness is required at particular
levels within the Scottish Police Service, in order to promote both
a professional and effective first response and direct the investigation
of such reported 'crimes in action' of this nature, which require
a covert and collective response between forces and specialist agencies.
Crimes in this
category are generally committed with a high degree of planning
and sophistication on the part of the offender(s) and with this
in mind, this one-day seminar is aimed at providing selected staff
with a tiered insight into the nature of the crimes involved and
the responses required at their respective levels of responsibility.
Content
Summary
The seminar
will provide both information of experiences in the investigation
of such crimes, and procedural guidance from relevant specialist
agencies or bodies, which outlines both the nature of crimes involved
and the responses to them. The seminar will be delivered in a structured
and tiered format to allow audience targeting as the content of
the seminar develops.
