the bears liked to live in caves
the caves had walls
they drew on the walls
they made pictures
it told them who they were
one day, after hunting
then one day an unusual thing happened
it was morning and the bears awoke to find
a new picture on the wall
it was a simple thing at first
a simple image
and no one in the bear clan knew what it was
or where it came from
they talked discussed and pontificated
for
they were clever bears
and every morning they waited for a new message
they had themselves stopped painting pictures on the walls
many of the other bears now cared not for the pictures of old
...or indeed of making new ones. it seemed these new paintings were so encapturing, so utterly entrancing.
the bears became very happy with every mornings new drawings
what was in these pictures & symbols all arranged to tell stories that fascinated and amazed?
They called them bookywooks
and eventually they all learned to sit & read them to each other -
some even made their own
Then one day after they had eaten their kill.
The wind became a voice. It told them of others they did not know.
They called it Waydeo
and every night - after bear tummys were filled, & before sleepy heads drooped & eyes fell heavy...
The Waydeo told them stories - some of which were in the Bookywooks, and some were new. It also told them of others near and far. Sometimes it told them lovely things - others scary
After some time.
The communal fire became agitated and formed into a strange dancing light of images & sounds
This was Telly welly.
they all became listless, no energy...
no one seemed to know why.
Then a box appeared
This was digital Telly Welly
they all became listless, no energy...
no one seemed to know why.
Eventually - one morning - beside every bears hand - a little box appeared...
Phurns.
Every bear could say hello to each other from miles & miles away.
Then, in time the Phurns had Waydeo on it
they all became listless, no energy...
no one seemed to know why.
And then the Phurns had Telly welly Waydeo on it
they all became listless, no energy...
no one seemed to know why.
or what to think...or how to behave. or what to do, to say, or what to believe.
some bears started to paint on the walls again
many didn't.
