Myth Busted?

"...I'm already suspicious of this because of the language used. For one, I've read books on Islam where as recently as the 1960's, they were using the word "Mohammedan" instead of Muslim or Moslem. I'm no linguist though, so I could easily be wrong. According to an etymological dictionary, the word Muslim was first used as a noun in 1615, and as an adjective in 1777. So I suppose it's possible, but who knows? I would definitely like to see the language of this letter analyzed from a historical and linguistic perspective to try to date it though.
In any event, the part of the letter which I personally find more interesting is this idea that Atheism was invented by the Masons intentionally to destroy Christianity by throwing it into a tailspin of uncertainty. Then, once people see how foolish Christianity is, those inclined to religious adoration will be presented with the pure light of Lucifer as a replacement.
It's a tantalizing myth. But it may be just that, a myth. In any event, this letter could just as easily have been an invention of the detractors of Masonry. It's certainly quoted ad nauseum among people who are trying to prove how evil and dangerous Masonry is. It's one of those things that's suspicious to me though because it says exactly what people want it to say. It's such a clear-cut smoking gun that it seems highly improbable. A term for this I've always liked is "orgy of evidence" (from Minority Report), which is when you have such an overwhelming amount of evidence that it's very likely faked. A good real life example is that car they supposedly found in a ditch outside Boston after 9/11 with a copy of the Koran and a couple of flight instruction manuals resting in the back seat. Yeah right! "

That's what little Dakota Fanning shrieks in War of the Worlds while Tom Cruise speeds away from an exploding bridge that is crushing their New Jersey neighborhood. (Related story: Worlds rakes in $21 million on opening night)
The answer is literally no but metaphorically yes.
Director Steven Spielberg says his version of the 1898 H.G. Wells novel about hostile alien invaders reflects American anxiety over the threat of Middle Eastern terrorists infiltrating the USA and causing mass devastation like the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

"Every iteration of War of the Worlds has occurred in times of uncertainty," he says. "We live under a veil of fear that we didn't live under before 9/11. There has been a conscious emotional shift in this country."
As mechanized tripods crawl across civilization, zapping people to dust inside their clothes and toppling buildings, War of the Worlds includes many images as indelible as the 9/11 attacks.
The dust-caked faces of thousands of terrified, fleeing citizens. The hundreds of "Have You Seen ... ?" posters with photos and contact information for loved ones trying to find the lost. One line of dialogue - "Did you lose anybody?" - was a common New York greeting at the time.
Orson Welles' infamous 1938 radio version, which caused panic on the East Coast among people who thought it was real, "preyed upon American fears of Hitler running rampant over eastern Europe," Spielberg says. 1953's movie version produced by George Pal was fueled by Cold War hysteria and the threat of nuclear destruction.

New York Post critic Lou Lumenick had mixed feelings about Spielberg's film but says using 9/11 imagery was "a valid form of artistic expression."
"I don't think any subject is off-limits, depending on how it's handled," Lumenick says. "If Spielberg had planes crashing into towers, I think that would upset a lot more people."
Village Voice critic Michael Atkinson says the images might be coming too soon for many New Yorkers.
"It might be just a matter of how close you were to Ground Zero that day," Atkinson says. "That might determine how much you're ready to have those things be used as aspects of mass entertainment."

Tom Cruise sparks 'alien' panic
War Of The Worlds has been blamed for a mass panic in Siberia after locals mistook a tornado for an alien invasion.
People in the Khabarovsk region of Siberia jumped into their cars and fled their homes in panic when the freak wind arrived out of nowhere, flattening trees and destroying property. But officials from local emergency services said the destruction had been caused by a freak tornado that ripped through the area.
They blamed the fear of an alien invasion on the recent showing of the Tom Cruise epic. Natalia Lukash, spokesperson for Russia's Far-Eastern Emergency Situations Centre, said:
"It was a strange phenomenon and many people jumped to the wrong conclusion and believed it had been caused by alien space ships landing in the area."

Ultimately, the 2005 "War of the Worlds" reflects hope by depicting the sort of sacrifice and unity that came out of 9/11.
ABC's "Invasion" also aims to show that traumatic events can heal divided families and communities.
"There's an 'us versus them' mentality that you don't even need to leave our shores to feel," says creator Shaun Cassidy.

worst thing that could happen" is if terrorists acquire and then use a
biological, chemical or nuclear weapon that inflicts heavy casualties.
If that happens, Franks said, "... the Western world, the free world,
loses what it cherishes most, and that is freedom and liberty we've seen
for a couple of hundred years in this grand experiment that we call
democracy."
Franks then offered "in a practical sense" what he thinks would happen
in the aftermath of such an attack.

terrorist, massive, casualty-producing event somewhere in the Western

Since 1976, the USA has executed more than 970 prisoners. In 2004, 59 prisoners were executed (an average of one per week). Between 1990-2005, the USA executed the most child offenders in the world.
In 1968, there were 517 prisoners on death row in the USA. Currently, more than 3,400 are on death row waiting to be executed - legally. Death row numbers have increased about 4.9 times as fast as the American population. 68% of all death verdicts are eventually reversed by courts, due to various serious errors in the criminal justice system. Since 1973, 119 prisoners have been exonerated from death row.
The USA incarcerates the most people per head of population than any other country in the world. More than 2.2 million of the world's 8 million prisoners are incarcerated in the USA (1 in every 75 males). The USA has over half-million more prisoners than China, with only one-quarter of China's population. Since 1980, the USA incarceration rate has more than tripled. Currently, 6.9 million Americans make up the correctional population. More than 4 million Americans are on probation and 800 thousand are on parole.
1 in every 31 Americans are either in prison, in county jail, in police custody, on probation, on parole, or on community service.
Each year, the USA incarcerates more than 10 million people. More than 2.3 million child offenders are arrested every year. More than 10,000 child offenders are held in high risk adult prisons.
In 2005, the adult correctional population reached a record high. If recent incarceration rates remain unchanged in the USA, an estimated 1 in every 19 Americans will be incarcerated during their lifetime.
Each year, there are some 3,000 reported deaths-in-custody. Ten years ago, only 150 deaths-in-custody were reported. The incarceration rate in the USA is currently 726 per 100,000 people. Almost two thirds of world countries have incarceration rates of 150 or below, per 100,000 people. The USA has the toughest prison sentences in the world, which include the death sentence and life in prison without parole.

Even though manufacturing jobs and plants are being eliminated today, as robotic and other technologies advance, manufacturing will return to the US (with fewer people involved). Technology will enable us to make things faster, cheaper and better than other less educated and technologically advanced countries.
A global middle class of 2 to 3 billion people will develop as China and other countries see increases in productivity and wealth.
Expect to see a tremendous growth of talent and population in major metropolitan cities of the country. These are great places to live today and that will remain constant in the future.

We will be connected. You will be able to reach anyone, anytime, anyplace and we will give up some privacy for this capability.
Biotechnology will bring us new, efficient and clean ways to manufacture items, much as nature makes thing now. We will design and build things from the bottom up, one atom at a time.

Hydrocarbon fuels will become obsolete and be replaced by clean hydrogen powered fuel cells.
Expect big advances in biotechnology, including the ability to control plant and animal evolution at the atomic and molecular level. There will be hybrid crosses between animal and plant species.
Nano and micro robotic technology will become a reality that impacts all aspects of our life.

On Sunday morning, the 2nd September 1666, the destruction of medieval London began. Within 5 days the city which Shakespeare had known was destroyed by fire. An area of one and a half miles by half a mile lay in ashes; 373 acres inside the city walls and 63 acres outside, 87 churches destroyed (including St. Paul's Cathedral) and 13,200 houses. In all this destruction, it is amazing that only 6 people are definitely known to have been killed. However, it seems likely that the actual death toll was much higher. In destroying the close packed houses and other buildings it is also likely that the fire finally put an end to the Great Plague that had devastated the city in the previous year - killing 17,440 out of the population of 93,000.

Former Canadian Minister Of Defence Asks Canadian Parliament Asked To Hold Hearings On Relations With Alien "Et" Civilizations

Mr. Hellyer went on to say, "I'm so concerned about what the consequences might be of starting an intergalactic war, that I just think I had to say something."
Hellyer revealed, "The secrecy involved in all matters pertaining to the Roswell incident was unparalled. The classification was, from the outset, above top secret, so the vast majority of U.S. officials and politicians, let alone a mere allied minister of defence, were never in-the-loop."
Hellyer warned, "The United States military are preparing weapons which could be used against the aliens, and they could get us into an intergalactic war without us ever having any warning. He stated, "The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide."
Hellyer's speech ended with a standing ovation. He said, "The time has come to lift the veil of secrecy, and let the truth emerge, so there can be a real and informed debate, about one of the most important problems facing our planet today."
Three Non-governmental organizations took Hellyer's words to heart, and approached Canada's Parliament in Ottawa, Canada's capital, to hold public hearings on a possible ET presence, and what Canada should do. The Canadian Senate, which is an appointed body, has held objective, well-regarded hearings and issued reports on controversial issues such as same-sex marriage and medical marijuana,
On October 20, 2005, the Institute for Cooperation in Space requested Canadian Senator Colin Kenny, Senator, Chair of The Senate Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, "schedule public hearings on the Canadian Exopolitics Initiative, so that witnesses such as the Hon. Paul Hellyer, and Canadian-connected high level military-intelligence, NORAD-connected, scientific, and governmental witnesses facilitated by the Disclosure Project and by the Toronto Exopolitics Symposium can present compelling evidence, testimony, and Public Policy recommendations."
The Non-governmental organizations seeking Parliament hearings include Canada-based Toronto Exopolitics Symposium, which organized the University of Toronto Symposium at which Mr. Hellyer spoke.
The Disclosure Project, a U.S.– based organization that has assembled high level military-intelligence witnesses of a possible ET presence, is also one of the organizations seeking Canadian Parliament hearings.
Vancouver-based Institute for Cooperation in Space (ICIS), whose International Director headed a proposed 1977 Extraterrestrial Communication Study for the White House of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who himself has publicly reported a 1969 Close Encounter of the First Kind with a UFO, filed the original request for Canadian Parliament hearings.
The Canadian Exopolitics Initiative, presented by the organizations to a Senate Committee panel hearing in Winnipeg, Canada, on March 10, 2005, proposes that the Government of Canada undertake a Decade of Contact.
The proposed Decade of Contact is "a 10-year process of formal, funded public education, scientific research, educational curricula development and implementation, strategic planning, community activity, and public outreach concerning our terrestrial society's full cultural, political, social, legal, and governmental communication and public interest diplomacy with advanced, ethical Off-Planet cultures now visiting Earth."
Canada has a long history of opposing the basing of weapons in Outer Space. On September 22, 2004 Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin declared to the U.N. General Assembly," "Space is our final frontier. It has always captured our imagination. What a tragedy it would be if space became one big weapons arsenal and the scene of a new arms race. Martin stated, "In 1967, the United Nations agreed that weapons of mass
destruction must not be based in space. The time has come to extend this ban to all weapons..."
In May, 2003, speaking before the Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Lloyd Axworthy, stated "Washington's offer to Canada is not an invitation to join America under a protective shield, but it presents a global security doctrine that violates Canadian values on many levels." Axworthy concluded, "There should be an uncompromising commitment to preventing the placement of weapons in space."
On February 24, 2005, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin made official Canada's decision not to take part in the U.S government's Ballistic Missile Defence program.
Paul Hellyer, who now seeks Canadian Parliament hearings on relations with ETs, on May 15, 2003, stated in Toronto's Globe & Mail newspaper, "Canada should accept the long-standing invitation of U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio to launch a conference to seek approval of an international treaty to ban weapons in space. That would be a positive Canadian contribution toward a more peaceful world."
In early November 2005, the Canadian Senate wrote ICIS, indicating the Senate Committee could not hold hearings on ETs in 2005, because of their already crowded schedule.
"That does not deter us," one spokesperson for the Non-governmental organizations said, "We are going ahead with our request to Prime Minister Paul Martin and the official opposition leaders in the House of Commons now, and we will re-apply with the Senate of Canada in early 2006.
"Time is on the side of open disclosure that there are ethical Extraterrestrial civilizations visiting Earth," The spokesperson stated. "Our Canadian government needs to openly address these important issues of the possible deployment of weapons in outer war plans against ethical ET societies."

Tackle climate change with technology, not emissions cuts, says Bush
US President George W Bush would prefer to invest in new technologies to combat climate change rather than cut carbon emissions. The President explained his views in an interview with UK broadcaster ITV on 3 July.
Referring to the Kyoto protocol, which makes a reduction of carbon emissions legally binding and was not signed by the US, Mr Bush said: 'If this looks like Kyoto, the answer is 'no'. The Kyoto treaty would have wrecked our economy, if I can be blunt.'
Mr Bush acknowledges however that global warming is now an issue that 'we've got to deal with', and favours doing this through new technologies. He told ITV that the US is investing in developing new, clean energy techniques such as sequestration of carbon dioxide in underground wells, hydrogen-powered cars and zero emission power stations. 'I think you can grow your economy and at the same time do a better job of harnessing greenhouse gases,' he said.
Indeed, a US company announced on 28 June that it had successfully completed test flights of a potentially environment-friendly aircraft powered by liquid hydrogen.
Using liquid hydrogen stored on board and oxygen extracted from the air, electricity is created and used to power propellers. A full tank of hydrogen could keep the unmanned plane - Global Observer - in the air for 24 hours, according to its owners, AeroVironment.
'In addition to validating the functionality of the airplane and the propulsion system, these flight tests demonstrated safe and efficient hydrogen powered flight and mobile liquid hydrogen fuelling operations, the last technology challenge for the Global Observer system. With this completed milestone and adequate funding, AV is confident that a Global Observer system can be deployed for US government applications within two years,' reads a statement from AeroVironment.
'Our dedicated, experienced team has achieved the last major milestone in our HALE [high altitude long endurance] UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] technology development,' said Tim Conver, AeroVironment's president and chief executive. 'We are now ready to quickly satisfy an urgent national security need for an affordable, persistent HALE system for communications relay and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.'

Bush says fight against terror is World War III

United States President George W Bush has said the September 11 revolt of passengers against their hijackers on board Flight 93 had struck the first blow of World War III.
In an interview with the financial news network CNBC on Friday, Bush said he had yet to see the recently released film of the uprising, a dramatic portrayal of events on the United Airlines plane before it crashed in a Pennsylvania field.
But he said he agreed with the description of David Beamer, whose son Todd died in the crash, who in a Wall Street Journal commentary last month called it "our first successful counterattack in our homeland in this new global war - World War III".
Bush said, "I believe that. I believe that it was the first counterattack to World War III.
"It was, it was unbelievably heroic of those folks on the airplane to recognise the danger and save lives," he said.
Flight 93 crashed on the morning of September 11, 2001, killing the 33 passengers, seven crew members and four hijackers, after passengers stormed the cockpit and battled the hijackers for control of the aircraft.
The President has repeatedly praised the heroism of the passengers in fighting back and so launching the first blow of what he usually calls the "war on terror".
In 2002, then-White House spokesman Ari Fleischer explicitly declined to call the hunt for Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda group and its followers World War III.

"A Russian scientific research organisation is to offer for export a 'bolt-on' stealth device that it claims renders non-stealthy aircraft practically invisible to radar. The system, which envelops the aircraft in a cloak of ionised gas known as a plasma, is said to be fully developed, with work on a "third-generation
visibility-reduction system" under way.
Keldysh NITs (Nauchno-Issledovatelskiy Tsentr or Scientific Research Centre) is making the claims. According to its director, Anatoliy Koroteyev, the system weighs less than 100kg and consumes little more than several dozen kW of power.
Given the state of the Russian economy, analysts consider it unlikely that any of NITs' work has been applied to Russian Air Force aircraft. According to Koroteyev, however, the system will soon be offered for export.

By installing the system, a typical aircraft radar cross-section (RCS) might be cut "by more than 100 times", Keldysh NITs officials said. This would be much the same RCS as dedicated US stealth aircraft such as the Lockheed Martin F-117 stealth fighter and the Northrop Grumman B-2 stealth bomber.
The claims are given credence by corroborating information on the status of Russian aerospace plasma research acquired by Jane's Defence Weekly last year. Russian work in the use of plasmas that purported to reduce aircraft drag by as much as 30% was collated by British Aerospace (BAe) in the mid-1990s. BAe has since been trying to verify the Russian claims in experiments carried out jointly with the UK Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) and the UK Ministry of Defence (JDW 17 June 1998).
One of the spin-offs of 'plasma aerodynamics', Russian officials told BAe, was that it vastly reduced an aircraft's RCS. The absorption of radio waves by plasmas is well known as the communications black-out that a space vehicle encounters on re-entry is caused by the shielding effects of plasma. This builds naturally in front of the spacecraft as it hits the Earth's atmosphere and shocks the air to high temperature.
The same principle applies to the absorption of radar energy. Although the aircraft would appear to glow like a lightbulb, using plasma generators all around the airframe, it would be almost invisible on a radar screen, Russian officials maintain.
In the opinion of designers at Mikoyan and Sukhoi, the expense of all-embracing low-observable technology as applied in the US Air Force's F-117 and B-2 outweighs its effectiveness. Russians prefer to stress the 'balance' achieved in their latest-generation of fighter designs between aerodynamic efficiency and stealth. The Mikoyan 1-44 and Sukhoi S-37 technology demonstrators, both of which have been rolled out in the past 18 months, are supposed to make use of radar-absorbent paint and materials but are short of inherent stealth features.
Keldysh NITs said that "first- and second-" generation plasma-generators had been tested on the ground and in flight. The centre is working on a third-generation system "based on new physical principles", a possible reference to the use of electrostatic energy around an airframe to reduce RCS. Others believe the Russians could be attempting to duplicate secret work under way in the USA to make aircraft invisible to the human eye by using 'smart skins' that mimic their background."

On 13 July 2004 Janes Defense reported - "Under the J-UCAS program, the two original X-45A demonstrators built by Boeing are continuing their flight tests. In mid-April, one of the X-45As became the first purpose-built UCAV to release a precision-guided weapon, launching an inert GPS (Global Positioning System)-inertial Small Smart Bomb and hitting a ground target at the USN's China Lake research facility. The human operator confirmed the identification of the target and authorized the UCAV to arm and release the weapon, but the X-45A maneuvered on to the target opened its weapon bay and dropped the bomb autonomously with the operator in a supervisory role. The aircraft was operating at 35,000ft and Mach 0.67 (M0.67), and the weapon hit the target."

The Pentagon is working to develop a suborbital space capsule within the next five years that would be launched from the United States and could deliver conventional weapons anywhere in the world within two hours, defense officials said.
This year, the Falcon program will test a launcher for its Common Aero Vehicle (CAV), an unmanned maneuverable spacecraft that would travel at five times the speed of sound and could carry 1,000 pounds of munitions, intelligence sensors or other payloads. Among the system's strengths is that commanders could order a CAV -- an unpowered glide vehicle -- not to release its payload if they decided not to follow through with an attack.
The first-generation CAV, expected to be ready by 2010, will have "an incredible capability to provide the warfighter with a global reach capability against high payoff targets," Gen. Lance W. Lord, commander of Air Force Space Command, told the House Armed Services Committee last Wednesday.
Within the next three years, the Falcon program hopes to enter a second stage of the effort: flight-testing two versions of a reusable hypersonic cruise vehicle, sometimes referred to as a space plane, that could travel a suborbital path, about 100,000 feet high, carrying a CAV anywhere in the world. Colored swine will advance stem cell studies, researchers say
TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan, home to the world's first transgenic glowing fish, has successfully bred fluorescent green pigs that researchers hope will boost the island's stem cell research, a professor said on Thursday.
By injecting fluorescent green protein into embryonic pigs, a research team at the island's leading National Taiwan University managed to breed three male transgenic pigs, said professor Wu Shinn-Chih of the university's Institute and Department of Animal Science and Technology.

"There are partially fluorescent green pigs elsewhere, but ours are the only ones in the world that are green from inside out. Even their hearts and internal organs are green," Wu said on Thursday.
The transgenic pigs, commonly used to study human diseases, would help researchers monitor and trace changes of the tissues during the physical development, Wu said.
In 2003, a Taiwan company began selling the world's first genetically engineered fish, sparking protests by environmentalists who said the fluorescent green fish posed a threat to the earth's ecosystem.
In neighboring South Korea, disgraced stem cell scientist Hwang Woo-suk apologized on Thursday for wrongdoing at his laboratory, but hinted at a conspiracy to discredit him and said he was blinded by the zeal of advancing stem cell studies.
An investigation panel at Seoul National University said on Tuesday that a team led by Hwang faked two landmark papers on embryonic stem cells, but did produce the world's first cloned dog.
