Should push come to shove, I would (were I Don Rumsfeld):...

1) Create a signals plan for to evacuate rapidly the population of Seoul (including military ground forces).

2) Simultaneously, carpet-bomb to oblivion everything on and northward of the DMZ. Create basically a crater in the Earth, over which tanks and ground forces could not (or would have a very difficult time to) traverse.

2a) Simultaneously bomb every known artillery installation which might enable the DPRK to hit Seoul/Incheon.

3) Engage the DPRK's naval power intensively in the Yellow Sea (west sea) with the heaviest naval hardware we possess.

4) Destroy by tactical nukes and/or heavy payload air ordnance all known DPRK military installations (ground troops); take out by missiles the DPRK government palaces and structures.

In evacuating Seoul, critical will be to also have previously created copies of all important records (of every stripe). Copy everything that cannot be lost, and create redundant storage bases at the extreme south of South Korea (in the last war, the North never got down to the Pusan region or to the large island of Cheju-do). Removal/relocation of unique machinery/computers (anything that cannot be built fairly easily again) should also be enacted. Ditto, national treasures (art; historical documents).

& then, let it bleed.

THE AMERICA FIRST COMMITTEE

The America First Committee was a different animal than the German American Bund or the homegrown Fascists, and they were far more powerful. These were Americans from many different backgrounds who shared a desire to end the war with Germany and Japan, but not out of any pacifist streak. The most prominent member to us today would be Colonel Charles Lindbergh, an internationally known figure due to his solo flight from New York to Paris in 1927. Along with Lindbergh, other prominent members of the Committee included: World War I air ace Eddie Rickenbacker, industrialist Henry Ford, Thomas McCarter, the Director of Chase National Bank, Robert Wood, Chairman of Sears Roebuck, Douglas Stuart, a member of the Quaker Oats family and owner of the Fascist publication Scribner's Commentary, and even Alice Roosevelt Longworth, Teddy Roosevelt's socialite daughter and a distant cousin of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. At its peak, the Committee boasted a following of 5 million members. (Higham 1985, 13) They had friends in high places, too; from Senator Wheeler, who supported the America First Committee by selling them a million franks (the free postage given to Congress and Senate members), and from Senator Lundeen, who was later killed in a mysterious plane crash with the FBI man following him. Lundeen had hired George Viereck as a speechwriter; Viereck was later convicted as a Nazi agent. (Hoke 1946, 105, 108)

George Viereck was also linked to the publishers of the Fascist Herald and Scribner's Commentary in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Scribner's published articles by Lindberghs and many other Fascist apologists, and when the FBI raided the Lake Geneva complex, Fascist Ralph Townsend disappeared into Canada, while several German agents were arrested. (Hoke 1946, 158) The future members of the Committee were not detered. In November 1939, Charles Lindbergh wrote the following for the Reader's Digest: "Our civilization depends on a united strength among ourselves; on a strength too great for foreign armies to challenge; on a Western wall of race and arms which can hold back either a Genghis Khan or the infiltration of inferior blood; on an English fleet, a German airforce, a French army, an American nation, standing together as guardians of our common heritage, sharing strength, dividing influence...we can have peace and security only so long as we band together to preserve that most priceless possession, our inheritance of European blood, only so long as we guard ourselves against attack by foreign armies and dilution by foreign races." (Seldes 1943, 149)

The Reader's Digest, not surprisingly, was owned and published by the pro-Fascist and anti-labor DeWitt Wallace. (Seldes 1943, 175) Among the other right-wing, if not outright pro-Fascist publications were the Chicago Tribune, the Hearst newspapers, the newspapers of Frank Gannett, the Scripps-Howard (later UP) Syndicate, and the Washington Times-Herald. (Seldes 1943, 208) Throughout the 1930s, the Chicago Times offered rewards of $1000 to $5000 to prove that certain items in the Tribune were NOT lies. The rewards were never claimed. President Roosevelt himself denounced William Randolph Hearst, the UP Syndicate and the Chicago Tribune for their support of Hitler. (Seldes 1943, 223-224) radicalreference

During the early 1970s, hard-line conservatives pilloried the CIA for being soft on the Soviets. As a result, CIA Director George Bush agreed to allow a team of outside experts to look at the intelligence and come to their own conclusions. Team B--which included Paul Wolfowitz--produced a scathing report, claiming that the Soviet threat had been badly underestimated.

In retrospect, Team B's conclusions were wildly off the mark. Describing the Soviet Union, in 1976, as having "a large and expanding Gross National Product," it predicted that it would modernize and expand its military at an awesome pace. For example, it predicted that the Backfire bomber "probably will be produced in substantial numbers, with perhaps 500 aircraft off the line by early 1984." In fact, the Soviets had 235 in 1984.

The reality was that even the CIA's own estimates--savaged as too low by Team B--were, in retrospect, gross exaggerations. In 1989, the CIA published an internal review of its threat assessments from 1974 to 1986 and came to the conclusion that every year it had "substantially overestimated" the Soviet threat along all dimensions. For example, in 1975 the CIA forecast that within 10 years the Soviet Union would replace 90 percent of its long-range bombers and missiles. In fact, by 1985, the Soviet Union had been able to replace less than 60 percent of them.

It puts itself across as a non denominational and non partisan study centre, whereas actually it is a militant organization, which draws its inspiration from a self-styled "counter-revolutionary" ideology.

Although run by Catholic fundamentalists, CESNUR promotes a kind of ecumenism among transnational enterprises which preach global free market; as we can see, CESNUR brings together admirers of the Inquisition and supporters of Scientology, Catholic extremists and esoteric Freemasons." -

Michael W. Homer - Mormons or freemasonry?

Those who receive the endowment covenant never to disclose certain portions of the ceremony --specifically, the signs, tokens, and keywords of the holy priesthood. Because of this injunction to silence about some portions of the ceremony, Latter-day Saints are typically reticent to discuss any aspect of the ceremony. Exposés of the endowment, which some anti-Mormon evangelicals are fond of publicizing, violate LDS sensibilities of the sacred. In an article on the connection between Mormonism and Masonry which appeared in Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought, Michael Homer observes that the Saints' reluctance to release an official text of the endowment gives "more credibility to unauthorized exposés than would otherwise be the case." I sense that this reluctance is due ultimately to a kind of embarrassment about the endowment--a fear that the ceremony will seem "weird" to outsiders (as, indeed, it seems "weird" to many Latter-day Saints the first time through) or that detractors will hold the ceremony up to ridicule. Michael W. Homer, a lawyer from Salt Lake City and an important leader among the Mormons, well known for their right-wing political commitment. As a young man, he spent time as a missionary in Italy. Just to make the CESNUR web a bit more complicated, one can add that whereas Melton belongs to CESNUR International, Homer runs a small outfit called CESNUR USA. LDS researcher Michael Homer discussed the Mormon use of Masonic symbols: "Even after the turn of the century and the abandonment of polygamy, the same comparison [to Masonry] was made. The First Presidency stated in a message on October 15, 1911, that '[b]ecause of their Masonic characters, the ceremonies of the temple are sacred and not for the public.' "Mormon use of Masonic symbols has also been publicly acknowledged. Mormons were hardly discreet in their depictions of symbols long associated with Freemasonry...including the square, the compass, the sun, moon, and stars, the beehive, the all-seeing eye, ritualistic hand grips, two interlaced triangles forming a six-pointed star...and a number of other Masonic symbols on endowment houses, temples, cooperatives, grave markers, tabernacles, church meetinghouses, newspaper mastheads, hotels, residences, money, logos, and seals." Mr. [Michael W.] Homer's and Dr. Introvigne's informative and fascinating article with the peculiar title, "The Recoming of the Fairies," will surely be of interest to anyone interested in Arthur Conan Doyle's life and personality. Based on the introduction to the first Italian edition of Conan Doyle's Il ritorno delle fate (The Coming of the Fairies), published by Sugarco (via E. Fermi 9, Carnago, Italy) in 1992, the authors review the circumstances surrounding the well-known episode of the Cottingley Fairies and Conan Doyle's involvement in this affair. The authors present a wealth of information on Doyle's religious and occult philosophical wanderings-somewhat reminiscent of Annie Besant's I might add-beginning with his early Roman Catholic and Jesuit upbringing, with his Jesuit education driving him to a declaration of agnosticism until he finally settled upon Spiritualism. Having an inquisitive mind, however, Conan Doyle took up the investigation of other philosophies and religions during his agnostic period, having been attracted to the teachings of Theosophy (especially those teachings therein which helped solve some of the "anomalies of life": reincarnation and karma), Rosicrucianism, Freemasonry, the Golden Dawn and Mormonism. Literary evidence of Theosophical influence, which Conan Doyle acquired through his personal acquaintance with A.P. Sinnett and the Theosophist's major works-The Occult World and Esoteric Buddhism-is apparent in Doyle's novel, The Mystery of Cloomber (1888).

By the time the Cottingley Fairy episode took place, however, Doyle had already firmly committed his efforts to Spiritualism. Apropos the episode, photographs of purported fairies were taken in 1917 by two cousins, nine-year-old Frances Griffiths and seventeen-year-old Elsie Wright in the village of Cottingley. The photos were not immediately released by the family, but two years later Elsie's mother was prompted to show them to a psychic lecturer who brought up the subject of fairy phenomena during a Theosophical Society meeting in Bradford. It was through this lecturer, Mrs. Powell, that a member of the Executive Committee of the T.S., Edward L. Gardner, acquainted Conan Doyle with the photographs in May 1920: a very serendipitous event for the latter, who was preparing an article on fairies for Strand Magazine. The outcome of Conan Doyle's investigation of both the girls and the photos led to his conviction that the Cottingley Fairies were genuine. This soon led to the publication of his book, The Coming of the Fairies, in 1922.

Conan Doyle apparently remained convinced that the photos were genuine right up to his death in 1930, as did Edward Gardner and the third major commentator of the fairy pictures, the noted Theosophist Geoffrey Hodson. By 1990, however, the deception of the girls was finally made public. Why Conan Doyle, for all his supposed astute powers of observation, failed to see through the ruse, defies comprehension, for it turned out that a drawing very similar to one of the Cottingley photos appeared in Princess Mary's Gift Book (1914), a book in which Conan Doyle himself contributed a chapter! Sounds more like a blunder that Inspector LaStrade would commit, not Sherlock Holmes.
